Paul Christensen

Professor Christensen is a cultural anthropologist specializing in contemporary Japan and the study of addiction, psychoactive substance use, and recovery. More broadly, he is interested in issues of masculinity, sports, popular culture, Brazil, and Hawai‘i. He received his PhD from the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa in 2010 and has been at Union College since August, 2011.

Currently Dr. Christensen is working on a book manuscript titled Suffering Sobriety: Alcoholism and Masculinity in Japan that will be published in 2015 with Lexington Books.
