Wesley Whitaker ’09 Earns a MALS at Dartmouth College

After graduating with Honors in English and Visual Arts, Wesley Whitaker ’09 worked at ski resorts in Oregon and Utah for a year with friends from Union.  Wesley entered Dartmouth College’s Master of Arts in Liberal Studies (MALS) program in 2010.  He currently works as a Communications Consultant at the Thayer School of Engineering at Dartmouth, where he writes articles for the Dartmouth Engineer and edits media for the school’s website.  Wesley has been published in The Aleph:  A Journal of Global Perspectives (at Union), The MALS Quarterly, The Graduate Forum:  Dartmouth’s Graduate Community Newsletter, and Dartmouth Engineer.  A video that he filmed in 2013 was posted on National Geographic’s “Weird and Wild” blog.  He notes that the work he does now draws directly upon the professional skill set he developed as an English student at Union.  His honors thesis, Sketches of Life—A Collection of Short Stories, was written under the direction of Judith Lewin and April Selley.  Wesley then illustrated selected scenes from Sketches of Life in a series of prints under the guidance of Sandy Wimer of the Visual Arts Department.
