Preventing Spam

no-spam

I’m guessing you don’t want it!

A spam filter has been installed at the server level for any of the muse.union.edu sites.

But there are some other things you can do to help prevent unwanted comments.

Go to:

Dashboard | Settings | Discussiondiscussion-settings

  • Click to uncheck “Attempt to notify any blogs linked to from the article”.
  • Click to uncheck “ Allow link notifications from other blogs (pings and trackbacks)”.
  • If it’s just a website and not a blog, also click to uncheck “Allow people to comment”.
  • As the Administrator of the site, you can decide if you want to  be notified when someone posts a comment.
  • You can also decide if you want to approve comments before they get posted.

This will prevent a lot of spam from pages you create from this point forward. This setting can be overridden for individual pages and posts.

If you’ve already created pages, you’ll need to prevent it from happening on the pages and posts you’ve already created.

To prevent Spam from your Pages:

Dashboards | Pages | All Pages    to get to your list of pages.

  • Click in the box beside <Title> to select all of the pages on this page of your list.
  • Click on the <Bulk Actions> button to drop down the list and choose <Edit>.
  • Click <Apply>  and a box will open.
  • In the center of that box, click on the <Comments> drop down list and choose “Do not allow”.
  • To the right in that box, click on the <Update> button.

If you have multiple pages of your published pages, you’ll need to repeat this process for every subsequent page of your list.
