Bringing Mathematics to Life (MTH115) Maker Module
Director: Associate Professor Jue Wang (Joy), Mathematics
A Maker-related module was developed for Professor Joy Wang in the Mathematics Department with her “Bringing Mathematics to Life with 3D Making” project which is based on visualizing and 3D printing complex mathematical visualizations for her MTH 115, 117, 130, 234 and 334 courses. Solutions of ordinary and partial differential equations can be effectively visualized and constructed through 3D printing, such as Lorenz attractors, chaos, and time-dependent solutions. They allow for developing better understanding of the mathematical principles and physical behaviors of the solutions. 3D printing can also help illustrate mathematical proofs and theories.
