We tend to think of progress as a linear story of development, in which each new era adds to the gains of the past ones, but often the story of progress is a more intrepid one, filled with setbacks, misfirings and brilliant false starts. Such might be the case with this week’s Bigelownian, Eliza Wood Farnham, a prominent 19th Century feminist, who stamped her own unique brand on the subject of gender relations.
