Organic Chemistry I (Fall, Winter; Staff). A mechanistic approach to the chemistry of carbon compounds organized around the reactions of functional groups. We cover alkanes, cycloalkanes, alcohols, alkyl halides (nucleophilis substitution and elimination), alkenes (additional and elimination), alkynes, spectroscopy (IR and NMR) and computer molecular modeling. Four lab hours each week. Prerequisite: CHM-102 or CHM-110.
