Building Your Bio

To build your bio, you will need to do several things.  First, you need to choose a name, age, and gender, none of which need to match your current reality.  When you choose your age, keep in mind that you are a college student in the early 1930s and will need to contribute posts until 1976, when Mao dies, so you will need to still be alive in 1976 or have family members (children, grandchildren) who take over your blog after your death.  To pick a Chinese name, click on the link below that says “Choosing a Chinese Name.”  After you do this, talk a little bit about yourself.

Second, you need to describe your family.  Make sure to state what your parents do for a living (and if both parents are alive), how many siblings you have, and what your general family financial status is.  Do you have grandparents?  What do they do?  Feel free to embellish as you wish.

Third, you need to decide where you are living (pick a province), in what circumstances (big city, small town, rural village).  If you are living in a small village, you can make up the name, but the provinces and cities need to be real.  Do a little digging to find out what kind of lifestyle you might be living there in the early 1930s when our blog scenario begins.

And finally, explain to your readers why you took on this job of reporting, especially at such a dangerous time.  What do you hope to gain?  What worries you?
