The MakerWeb is supported by labs across campus.
The Collaborative Design Studio is in Wold 026, where students can come to 3D print, 3D model, and 3D scan. This lab hosts 2 Makerbot Replicator 3D printers, 1 Formlabs 1+ Stereo Lithography 3D Printer, 1 BCN3D Sigma IDex 3D printer, 1 MakerBot Replicator z18, and a Stratasys Connex500. 3D scanners include a 3D Systems Sense scanner and a FAROArm Edge. We have a 3D Systems Touch Stylus for 3D modeling. We have 3 computers for designing, 2 Windows machines, and 1 Mac. These computers host many 3D design software options, including SolidWorks, Blender, MeshMixer, MeshLab, CloudCompare, Sculptris, ZBrush, Sketchup, 123DMake, and more. We have several slicing options including Simplify3D, Makerbot Desktop, Matter Control, and Cura. Access to this lab requires the entry level 3D Printing Badge.
Laser Cutter Lab
Our Laser Cutter lives in the Feigenbaum Visual Arts Digital Studio. The Laser Cutter is a Full Spectrum Laser, P2416+. It’s a 90watt class IV laser that can cut materials as large as 24″x16″, but also has a pass through slot. Files are sent to this laser cutter through Adobe Illustrator on a local Windows machine located in this lab. Access to this Laser Cutter requires the entry level Laser Cutter Safety Training Badge.
The Idea Lab is in the basement of the Schaeffer Library. Modeled after Google Garage’s open floor plan, the Idea Lab hopes to facilitate collaboration and ideation. Students can use the white boards to brain storm, ideate and design. The Idea Lab also has some basic materials for quickly designing and ideating, like pipe cleaners, modeling clay, and construction paper.
