Opening Reception and Book Signing: The Grand Design

Tuesday, April 16th, 2013, 5-6:30PM, Nott Memorial

In conjunction with the upcoming exhibition, The Grand Design: Joseph Ramée’s Drawings for the Union College Campus, Paul Turner, author of the exhibition catalogue, will be present at the opening reception to answer questions about Joseph Ramée’s drawings and sign copies of the catalogue.

Paul V. Turner, a native of Schenectady, graduated from Union College in 1962. From 1971 to 2006 he taught the history of architecture at Stanford University, and is now the Wattis Professor of Art, Emeritus, at Stanford.  Turner became fascinated with the work of Ramée, and over a ten-year period, he gradually reconstructed Ramée’s life and career, showing that the architect’s work was much more extensive and influential than had previously been suspected.  The resulting book, Joseph Ramée: International Architect of the Revolutionary Era, was published in 1996 by Cambridge University Press.

Warren Thompson, Union class of 2015 will perform during the reception with a program of late 18th and early 19th century music.

Wine and light refreshments will be served. This event is free and open to the public.
