Chapter of Association for Women in Mathematics Established

The Union College Mathematics Conference returns, to be held the weekend of December 3rd and 4th, 2016 here at Union. Union math welcomes its new members!

As of Fall 2015, three new professors have joined the Union math department! Ellen Gasparovic joins us as an assistant professor, coming most recently from Duke University. Her research interests include computational geometry/topology, differential topology, and topological data analysis. Professors Barbanel, Niefield, and Zimmermann Retiring

As of Spring 2015, three of Union’s faculty members are retiring. Professors Julius Barbanel, Susan Niefield, and Karl Zimmermann arrived at Union between 1979 and 1981 and have completed over 100 years combined of service to the college! Union students receive honors in MCM

Two teams of Union students were recognized for their work in the 2015 Mathematical Contest in Modeling (MCM)! The MCM is a very challenging competition that runs nonstop over a four-day period. Over 7600 teams from 17 countries took part. Miaoqing (Andie) Jia (’17), Ran Wang (’15), and Lingzhi Zhang (’16) received Meritorious Winner (top 10%) and Jing Jin (’17), Yihan Luo (’17), and Xuanhan (Eason) Zhao (’15) received Honorable Mention (top 40%).
