Senior Options For Academic Year 2017-18

The memo to students that explains senior options for AY17-18 can be found here.  The different options are summarized below.

  • Option 1: MER487 (Writing Seminar) & ME Elective
    • What you need to do now: Think about thesis topics & submit senior writing placement form (attached) by 5/12/17.
  • Option 2: MER487 (Writing Seminar) & Senior Leader on Design Competition Team
    • Team project examples: Human Powered Vehicle, Baja, Rocketry Team & SAE Aero
    • What you need to do now: (1) Get your resume together (2) Interview with team advisor and team captains (3) Get hired! (4) Submit senior writing placement form (attached) by 5/12/17.
  • Option 3: MER497 (Senior Project) & MER498 (Pre-requisites:  MER333, MER311)
    • Student/Faculty independent projects (research &/or design oriented)
    • MER497 offered F/W MER498 offered W/S  (only)
    • What you need to do now: (1) Talk to faculty about project ideas (2) Get your resume together & put together a project proposal (3) If needed (to pitch your own original idea) sign up for presentation slot 5/5 (4) Get selected! (4) Submit senior writing placement form (attached) by 5/12/17.

Senior Project

Description: A capstone design project or research project, performed either independently or in a team under the supervision of one or more of the department faculty. The project will span a minimum of two academic terms.

Grading Rubric: This grading rubric will be used by department faculty to determine grades earned by senior project students.

Syllabi with Component Descriptions: This MER 497 Syllabus will tell you what is due when for MER 497. This MER 498 Syllabus will tell you what is due when for MER 498.

Self-Assessment Form: This MER 497-498 Senior Project Student self-assessment form must be completed by each student in MER 497 and MER 498.
