Gail Golderman, Schaffer Library electronic media librarian, and Bruce
Connolly,
reference librarian, were finalists in the “Teaching and
Training” category of the ONLINE World 2000 Conference “Best
Practices” competition held in San Diego in September. Their poster
session, “Workshops on Electronic Resources/Library of Online
Documentation,” demonstrated how the library's in-house training program
functions and displayed the custom documentation created to support training
efforts. (See the Workshop Overview at: www.union.edu/PUBLIC/LIBRARY/training/index.html.)
Connolly's “PLAY: The Online Music Reference Source for Librarians,
Listeners, and Collection Builders” was also a finalist in the
“Research/Resources” category. PLAY (www.union.edu/PUBLIC/LIBRARY/PLAY/index.html
) includes reviews, discographies of recommended recordings, and links to
music-related Websites. Union was the only college library to reach the final
round and the only organization with finalists in more than one awards category.
The field also included the University of Illinois, Pepperdine University, and
the Maryland Public Information Network, as well as corporate information and
research centers from AT&T, Van Kampen Funds, Northwestern Mutual Life,
Weyerhaeuser, and Lockheed Martin.
