Dutch Pipers release CD titled “We Did It!”

As they celebrate 50 years of harmony at Union,
the Dutch Pipers have released their seventh compilation on a CD called “We did
it!”

They kicked off the release at
a party on Friday, Oct. 22, at Chet's in the Reamer Campus Center.

The new compact disc is a 15-song
collection of contemporary and barbershop tunes including such favorites as the
Beatles' “Yesterday” and “Lovin' Feelin'” by the Righteous Brothers. Songs from
this decade include “Ants Marching” by the Dave Mathews Band and “Wannabe” by
the Spice Girls.

CDs are available for $10 on
campus or through the mail for an additional $3 for shipping and handling. They
can be ordered by contacting Brad Akin at akind@union.edu

Other releases by the Pipers
include “Brandywine Diner” in 1996 and “Live from Avon Meatland” in 1999. For

Film artist Leighton Pierce to show works

Film and video artist Leighton
Pierce will present a show of his works on Tuesday, Oct. 26, at 8:15 p.m. in Arts 215.

The event, sponsored by the honors
Freshman Preceptorial and Departments of Visual Arts and English, is open to
the campus community.

Pierce, a professor in the film
program at the University of Iowa
and a Guggenheim Fellow, has shown his films at the Whitney Biennial and the Museum
of Modern Art. His work combines
technical innovation with attention to lyrical combinations of sound and image.

Dutch ethicist to address euthanasia

Dr. Gerrit Kimsma, general
practitioner and professor in medical ethics at the Free University of
Amsterdam, the Netherlands, will speak on “Euthanasia and End-of-Life Care in
the Netherlands” on Monday, Oct. 25, at 4:45
p.m. in Humanities 019 at Union College.

The talk, sponsored by the Center for Bioethics and the
Philosophy Department at Union, is free and open to the
public.

Kimsma, a Dutch physician who
supports euthanasia, is co-founder and president of
the Dutch society of Philosophy and Medicine, and co-founding member of the
European Society of Philosophy of Medicine and Health Care.

Chalmers
Clark,visiting scholar at Yale University and visiting professor at Union, will
provide commentary.
