Rudy
Nydegger, professor
of psychology, has been appointed State Legislative Advocacy Coordinator for
the New York State Psychological Association. The post involves tracking and
initiating state legislative agenda that are of interest to psychology and to
the consumers of mental health services. He will work with the legislature,
lobbyists, professional groups, and consumer groups to support and encourage
better legislative support for mental health services and for patients and
clients.
Prof. Rice co-authors journal articles with former students
Steven K. Rice,
associate professor of biology, has co-authored two papers with former
students. “Impacts of the exotic, nitrogen-fixing black locust (Robinia pseudoacacia)
on nitrogen-cycling in a pine-oak ecosystem,” was published in the journal Plant Ecology (174: 97-107), was written
with Bryant Westerman '01 and Robert Federici '02. “Cushion size, surface roughness, and the
control of water balance and carbon flux in the cushion moss Leucobryum glaucum
(Leucobryaceae), in American Journal of Botany (91: 1164-1172) was written with Nicole
Schneider '03.
Prof. Peterson-Bidoshi presents conference paper
Kristin Peterson-Bidoshi, assistant professor of Russian, recently
presented a paper, “The Dordolec and the Evil Eye:
Material Culture and Social Construct in Post-Communist Albania” at the annual
American Folklore Society Conference in Salt
Lake City, Utah.
Prof. Weisse writes on gender and pain reporting
Carol S. Weisse, director of health professions, has written an article, “The
Influence of Experimenter Race and Gender on Pain Reporting: Does Racial or
Gender Concordance Matter?” to be published in a special issue on pain and
disparities of the journal Pain Medicine. The article is co-authored by
two Union alums Kemoy Foster '01, a student at Harvard Law School, and Beth Fisher '00 who works at the University of North Carolina
at Chapel Hill.
Nocturnal assembly topic of Prof. Mueller papers

nocturna en la antigua
Roma,” in Nova Tellus
(22 2004: 122-139). These articles investigate legal and religious aspects to
nocturnal assembly in ancient Rome, and
represent part of a continuing project on the social construction of night in
ancient Rome.
