A reception and panel discussion will be held Thursday at 4:30 p.m. in the Nott Memorial to culminate the exhibit, “Armed: Contemporary Art and Violence.”


The Daily Gazette recently called “Armed” one of the best art shows of 2006.


Featured artists on the panel include: Robert Beck, Gregory Green, Michael Millspaugh, Michael Oatmen, David Rees and Margaret Roleke.

The event is free and open to the public.


“Armed” explores the human obsession with weapons and the complexities of aggression. The exhibit features sculpture, collage, photography, painting and drawing by 11 artists: Associated Artists For Propaganda Research;Robert Beck;Susan Graham; Gregory Green; Michael Millspaugh; Michael Oatman; Kristin Oppenheim; David Rees; Margaret Roleke; Simone Shubuck; and Type A.


The exhibition “allows the viewer to take a critical look at how we view weapons, how we relate to them and what we do with them,” says Nadine Wasserman, co-curator of the show along with Rachel Seligman, director of the Mandeville Gallery.
