Research topics include: Clinical psychology with interests in weight, body image, and eating disorders.
Professor Walker teaches courses on Body Image and Eating Disorders, Abnormal Psychology, Psychological Assessment and Testing, and Introductory Psychology.
Professor Walker’s research focuses on a number of interrelated areas within the area of eating disorders, obesity, and body image dissatisfaction: (1) body checking behaviors (any behavior conducted to obtain information about one’s weight, shape, or size) and body image avoidance (any behavior aimed at avoiding information about one’s weight, shape, or size); (2) disordered eating and body image dissatisfaction in men; and (3) the incorporation of mindfulness and acceptance based treatments for eating disorders and body image dissatisfaction.
Professor Walker is also a licensed clinical psychologist and conducts individual therapy and group therapy as part of an intensive outpatient program for eating disorders.

Students who are interested in getting research experience in the Body Image, Weight, and Eating Disorder (BIWED) lab should fill out the BIWED Lab Research Assistant Application and return to Professor Walker at firstname.lastname@example.org or to Bailey 301C. Students who may be interested in volunteering in future terms are encouraged to attend weekly lab meetings during the current term to learn more about the research process and what research is currently being conducted in the lab.
