PHI BETA KAPPA Room (Schaffer Library)

This fall, Mark Walker and Joe Johnson will lead a year-long series of faculty institutes, a set of closely integrated micro-seminars that build on a core theme and goals that unite courses in the Common Curriculum and beyond.

18 October

Connecting Research, Writing, and Critical Thinking  in the Common Curriculum and within and across the Disciplines: how can we help students develop foundational academic literacy — and intellectual “habits of mind” — in General Education courses? how can we help students continue to develop academic literacy— and intellectual “habits of mind” — within and across the disciplines?

Short readings from John C. Bean, Engaging Ideas: The Professor’s Guide to Integrating Writing, Critical Thinking, and Active Learning in the Classroom, 2nd Edition, will be available prior to each micro-seminar. Participants should arrive prepared to discuss the readings.
