My name is John-Paul van Essche and I am currently a senior Electrical Engineering student at Union College in Schenectady, NY.  I have always had a keen interest for soccer, so I developed an idea for my project after reading an article on how gathering statistical data can pave the way for professional teams in the future.  As a Premier League aficionado, I developed an interest in observing the statistics that set the best teams and individual players apart from others. Although not every aspect of a soccer player’s game can be quantified, it is interesting to see what statistics are most important to coaches and how management can be improved by observing detailed data.  For my senior design project, I am utilizing a GPS unit to track the movements of players on field in an effort to capture accurate statistics that can improve a team or individual’s game.  Please refer to the “Motivation” page to read more about my senior design project.
