Professor David Cotter, Sociology Department Chair, recently published research in which he and several colleagues analyzed changing American attitudes toward gender roles using data from the General Social Survey. See the article about his research in the January 6th issue of The Chronicle. Read the original paper here. Sociology students will recognize the General Social Surveys since many of them are introduced to this massive data set in their SOC100 classes. These data have been collected since 1972 and are freely available on the web for use by scholars and students alike.
