Thank U

There are two days of classes left in Spring term, and one class left for me in my undergraduate career. I’ve had a lot of time over the past few weeks to reflect on my past four years here at Union and the only thing I can think of to say is: Thank You. During high school all you hear about is how college is the best four years of your life.  While I can’t speak to that now because I have no idea what will happen during the rest of my life, I can say that the past four...

TBT To My First Choice

Tomorrow is May 1st, which marks the day that many high school seniors will be choosing where they will spend the next four years.  Last year, I was feeling nostalgic and wrote a blog post about why I chose Union.  Now, as a senior, with only about seven weeks left until graduation, I am reliving that moment again.  These past four years have been nothing short of amazing, and I have gained so many experiences that I wouldn’t trade it for the world. Below is my blog post I wrote last year around this time, and just reading it over again has given me chills.  When I was a high school senior, there was so much uncertainty ahead and now that I will be graduating, I’m feeling that uncertainty again. Now knowing that everything has worked out so well, I can only look to the future with anticipation as I see what’s next to come. Best of luck to all students deciding to come to Union, I hope you make the right decision, and I can assure you that I definitely did! WHY I CHOSE UNION Originally posted April 3, 2014 Three years ago, around this time, I was deciding where I would spend the next 4 years of my life. Starting the Summer before my senior year of high school, I began my college search. I created a list...

U Crew

This past weekend the crew team had our first race!  On Saturday our novice boat raced against U Albany, and on Sunday we faced Hamilton.  We were all very excited for our first race, especially since it was against Hamilton.  We have a long standing rivalry with Hamilton and each year compete for trophies against them. Overall our crews did pretty well, but unfortunately we didn’t win the trophy.  Even though we improve every year, Hamilton does too and they are a hard team to beat! This was the 10th year in a row that Hamilton’s women’s varsity boat...

Field Trip

Two weeks ago my class took a field trip to Boston! Many people think that field trips stop once you’re in college, but that’s far from the truth! I actually taken way more field trips in the past three and a half years at Union than I did all through grade school! The field trip was for my ESPE Senior Capstone class, a class of senior Environmental Policy and Science majors that focuses on communicating science.  We left at 7am and got to Boston at around 1030 after getting stuck in some Patriot’s Super Bowl celebration parade traffic (convenient...

Chowderfest

This weekend was quite eventful, musician Andy Grammer paid a visit to Union for a concert, but many Union students found themselves heading North to Saratoga for the annual Chowderfest! Basically, Chowderfest is a huge festival where a bunch of restaurants in Saratoga compete to see who has the best chowder!  Tons of Union students braved the single-digit temperature to wander around the city to chow down on $1 cups of chowder and explore the local bars and restaurants.  As you move around from place to place, you buy a cup of chowder for $1, enjoy it, and then...

2015

It’s official. It’s 2015, the year I graduate from Union. Yesterday kickstarted Winter term here at Union, my second-to-last term. This past winter break I spent a lot of time doing nothing.  This was the first winter break that I was actually home and had time to spend with my family and friends. In the past, I’ve spent the 6-week break between the Fall and Winter terms working, traveling to New Zealand on a mini-term abroad program, and living in France during the tail end of my term abroad last Fall. Considering this was the last winter break I...

Time Flies

The phrase ‘time flies when you’re having fun’ has never applied more than to my time at Union.  These past 3 years have flown by, I never expected to be the one to say this but, it feels like first-year move in was just yesterday for me. Now that I’m a senior, I’m trying my best not to wish the time away, but with the workload this year, it can get pretty difficult. Throughout this term, I have been dreading the upcoming week of work, midterms to study for, my last labs to write, and especially my weekly meetings...

Finally Fall

We’ve had some pretty crazy weather at Union during my previous three years here, but this Fall weather is new to me. I’m a winter girl, I love the cold and the snow and bundling up. When it started to get chilly a few weeks ago, I got really excited. I started to bring out my fall sweaters and boots, and was looking forward to the cold weather coming up. You can understand why I was disappointed when we were hit with a heat wave all of a sudden! It was 80 degrees for about a week in October…80...

Bucket List

Ever since I was  young, I’ve made numerous mini Bucket Lists. Generally, a bucket list is a list of things you want to do before you ‘kick the bucket’, but I generally made a bunch like ‘things to do before I graduate high school’, ‘things to do before the summer is over’, and, more recently: Things to Do Before I Graduate Union. Looking back on my last three years at Union, I have had a great experience that I wouldn’t trade for anything, but of course there are a few things I want to do before I leave Union...

Heat Wave

Growing up in Upstate New York, I became very accustomed to the cold. Now, I prefer being cold to being hot, I enjoy wearing layers, I love to curl up next to a fire, and as much as I love the sun and a good beach day, I am a winter girl. You can imagine my distress this past weekend when it was over 80 DEGREES in Schenectady. I do not do well with heat, it’s stressful and uncomfortable and it was terrible. Now I do love nice weather and spending the day by a pool, but I’ve already...
