Guest Post: Discovering Digital Art Through Union College

Today’s featured blogger is Arielle Singer, ’18. Arielle is a Marketing Engineering Products (Organizing Theme) major from California. Learn more about Arielle here!   I have found here at Union College that my mental health was more balanced during the terms that I took a digital art course. My art is really a place where I am able to integrate all the things that I am trying to process and lay them out in front of me. As my interest and ability in this medium has expanded so have the ways that I can process. I can use everything...

Guest Post: Presenting My Research in NOLA

Today’s featured blogger is Jess Maung, ’18. Jess is a Biochemistry major and an Environmental Policy minor. Learn more about Jess here! I have been on a crazy, rewarding, and challenging adventure doing research during my time at Union. I started doing research at the beginning of my sophomore year through my Scholars’ Research Project, and approached Professors Margot Paulick and Laura MacManus-Spencer (also known as LAMS) about doing work on a joint project they collaborate on. Guest Post: Steinmetz Day

Today’s featured blogger is Rachel McNeil, ’18 – an Organizing Theme major (Digital and Visual Media Literacy) from Cortland, NY. Learn more about Jessica and her major here. Union’s spring schedule is full of traditions and annual events, from Springfest to Lobsterfest, to Alumni weekend, but my all-time favorite after four years here, is Steinmetz Day. The 28th annual Steinmetz Symposium took place on Friday, May 11, 2018.  The symposium marks the only official day at Union where classes are cancelled, and the campus is transformed into a space for research presentations, performances, and gallery receptions. Steinmetz holds a very...

Today’s featured blogger is Hannah Rayhill, ’18 – an English and Anthropology major from New Hartford, NY. Learn more about Jessica here. My most favorite aspect of the Union College Campus is Jackson’s Garden. For those of you that don’t know, Jackson’s Garden is a couple acres of land behind our campus center that is maintained by our school as a outdoor common space for all to enjoy. There is a tree that is just inside the entrance of the Garden tucked to the left a little ways down the main path. This tree’s trunk splits into three trunks that caper...

John Calvin Toll Day & the Kelly Adirondack Center

John Calvin Toll Day is Union’s campus-wide day of service. This is a great event for both students and the community to come together and make new connections. This year, over 400 students took part at over 16 venues. This year was my second year volunteering, and once again it was a great day! My group went to the Kelly Adirondack Center where we were asked to cut back a trail to make it useable again for the public. It was great to be in the woods during autumn enjoying the crisp air. I loved it and all...

5 Tips on Saving Money Before Graduation

I am a full-time student, which means my priority in life is my education. As well as the rest of the students on campus, I have definitely invested both a lot of time and money into learning. However, now that I am a junior, I am starting to more seriously think about money. Thankfully, I have a family that has helped to support me in my endeavors over the last two and a half years. But growing independence also means I need to start saving and thinking about the future: graduate programs, apartments, houses, a new car. All the...
