birdjumpmovie

In the original image, we can see a small bird hop in front of the stationary background of a birdfeeder.

From the model of the elementary motion detector, we saw that the length of the delay was an important factor in how the model will respond to motion of different velocities.  In this example, the motion was analyzed with three different temporal filter settings, T=1, the shortest delay possible, T=4, a medium delay and T=8, a long delay.

The output from the motion detector is displayed below in two different forms.  First, with intensity showing the strength of the response and color indicating direction and the same data displayed as a three dimensional graph showing strength of response with no indication of direction.

The results are displayed on the same axes and show a diminishing response as longer delays are used.
