During this weekly meeting, Professor Dosiek introduced me to the power systems lab and the local AC socket voltage measurement system. The system composes of a voltage step down device, a Bitscope measurement device and a raspberry pi computer. The first device steps voltage from an AC socket to around 3V and the output is connected to the Bitscope measurement device. Using a python script in the raspberry pi, the voltage signal from the Bitscope device is captured. In the script, the captured signal data is used to compute voltage magnitude, angle, and frequency of the signal. The components of the system are shown below:
