This weekly meeting was spent entirely on discussing the audification approach. I brought a draft of my block diagram to Professor Dosiek which he corrected. The final version of the block diagram is shown below:
For this approach I will take the raw power grid voltage signal and extract the magnitude and angle. These system parameters will then be amplified by gains to amplify their fluctuations. Voltage magnitude will correspond to the volume of the audio signal while the frequencies will adjust the pitch of the signal. The carrier frequency of the signal will be amplified to 261 Hz to center the frequency fluctuations on middle C. Any fluctuations in the frequency will cause rise/fall from the middle C audio signal. The output of this approach will be played back using the soundsc function as discussed in last weeks post. Our meeting finished with Professor Dosiek requesting that I conduct research on other sonification/audification techniques to find support for my project defense.
