Student Hoang Minh Hieu – Introduction

Hi, I am Hieu Hoang, a rising freshmen here in Union. I am Computer Science major and Economics minor. I am from Hanoi, Vietnam, and right now I’m in quarantine in my home country. My hobbies are soccer, music (pop/ballad), coding and I always love to travel around the world to take pictures. The reason that I decide to attend this class is because I had learned a lot about History during my 12-year school time in Vietnam, especially China’s history as there’s a strong connection between Vietnam and China. I really want to re-see the history in a new way, through the art’s perspective, how art can represent culture, both idealogically and visually.

Hello, my name is Anthony Ramos. I am a junior and my major is Psychology. I am currently residing in Long Island with my family. Some of my hobbies include sports and playing piano. I have taken one art history class which was Material Culture Christianity. I found this class very interesting and wanted to take more classes involving art history. Although I am still relatively new to this type of material and class, I am excited to learn about this topic.

Bridget Logan Introduction

Hi,

My name is Bridget Logan. I am a senior majoring in Mathematics and minoring in Psychology. I am currently in Somers, Connecticut with my family. However, I had the opportunity last spring to go abroad to London, and was also able to travel to other European countries like Greece and Croatia. Especially in Athens, Greece was I able to see the amazing Greek art and culture everywhere we went. I did not make it to any Asian countries, but I am fascinated by Chinese culture and am excited to learn more about it in this class.

Introduction – Matthew Buri

Hello, I am Matthew Buri. I am a Junior from Rochester NY with a major in psychology.  Last year my SRS was focused on medieval art and I found it interesting. As such, I decided to take this class to learn more about art around the world. I find artists themselves to be the most interesting as I like to find out why they chose to create the pieces that they did and what those pieces are trying to convey.

Introduction – Emily Caruso

Hi everyone! My name is Emily Caruso and I’m a junior and Environmental Geoscience major. I am currently home in Acton, Massachusetts with my family. I am the middle child of three girls so being home with both of my sisters again has definitely been an adventure but my dog sure is loving all the extra attention. I have mostly taken science classes here at Union so I don’t have much experience in this subject but I love art and I have always been interested in Chinese culture so this class definitely sparked my interest and I am excited to learn!

Robert Cohen- Intro

Hello, my name is Robert Cohen and I am a current junior with a poli sci major. Last term I took an econ course focused solely on the Chinese economy and found it to be rather interesting, although there was little cultural aspects discussed. As such, I decided to take this class in the hopes that I will be able to learn more regarding the art and culture of China (traditional and communist eras being my primary interest). I have yet to take an art history course at Union, so this course will also allow me to explore this field while also allowing me to remain somewhat within my discipline of political science. This course also stuck out to me due to the historical nature of it, as I’d much prefer to learn the history of paintings, rather than trying to mimic them (as I had to do in high-school art class).

Alexander Boris – Introduction

Hello, my name is Alexander Boris and I am a senior Economics Major. Additionally I have had a focus in both psychology as well as sculpture / studio arts. Besides taking several sculpture classes I have also had the pleasure of taking American Art and Architecture which gave me the chance to further explore my passion for Native American art in an academic setting. Outside of school I currently reside in Philadelphia, however I loved to travel and have been to most European countries between the United Kingdom, Portugal, and Turkey. Other than that I have been to a large portion of the countries in north and south America, I was recently in both the Argentinian and Chilean Patagonia pursing my greatest passion, fishing.  I am looking forward to this class for I have yet to had the chance to travel to china and I always think that a great way to learn the culture of a place is through it art.

Introduction- Annabelle Carter

Hi, My name is Annabelle Carter and I’m a senior with an ID major in Biology and Science, Medicine and Technology in Culture. I live in Portland, Maine and my favorite hobbies since I’ve been back home include petting my dog. I have not yet taken any Art History classes or art in general at Union. All the art classes I took back in middle and high school had art history segments to them and I always enjoyed it. I have taken many culturally focused classes here however and I am excited to add the angle of Art History to the way I have learned to study it. Overall, I am excited about this class and the new experience it will be for me.

Daniel Goldman Introduction

Hi,

My name is Daniel Goldman, and I am a senior geology major from Larchmont, NY. Some activities I like to do include playing baseball (I played for my high school), watching any type of sport, and hiking/outdoor activities.

I have not taken very many courses pertaining to other cultures (a few anthropology courses over the past four years), however I really enjoy learning about both American and World History, so I am excited to learn more about Chinese culture through art, and connecting it to their twentieth century history.

Being a geology major has its perks, and I was lucky enough to go to a remote town in Alaska last summer to conduct my thesis research around a newly exposed glacial lake. The photo represents the average day there.

Hi,

My name is Salvador Lopez, I am a senior Economics major and visual arts minor. I live in Westchester, New York and will be taking the class from this location. I was a member of the Union mens soccer team and have been involved in the student investment fund on campus since sophomore year. I took your class on arts of Japan and found it very interesting. I wanted to take another class related to arts of an Asian country and I think the historical component in this class is very interesting as well.
