My Philosophy of Teaching

I have found that teaching at a small college requires many hats.  Teaching is just a part of the job.  I also play academic advisor, research coordinator, career counselor, confidant, and now I’ve actually hit the “Dad” stage (my kids are now college age). I am very fortunate; some of my students have become my friends and we still keep in touch.  Students tend to come by my office long after they were in my courses just to chat, or catch up, or ask for advice.  I love that part of the job- I hope I never reach a point where my relationship with students ends at the classroom door or the end of a term.

More about me

I married my college sweetheart, Amy, in 1994.  We have 2 beautiful children, Justin and Sarah.  In my “spare time” I study karate and I teach a class at my dojo (and I manage the dojo’s website). I like reading science fiction and fantasy novels (and movies of the same genres) and listening to most kinds of music (although mostly modern alternative rock).
