Annual Sadock Women in the Arts Lecture and Reception: Traci Molloy

In a collaboration with the Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies Program, the opening reception for the Wikoff Student Gallery’s new exhibition, The Weight of This: Femininity and Sexual Assault on Campus, will include the Annual Katharine Van Meter Sadock Women in the Arts Lecture, featuring Traci Molloy, a Brooklyn-based artist, collaborator, and education activist. Katharine (Kitty) Van Meter Sadock was an artist — a painter, a designer, a jeweler, a sculptor, an actor, and a writer. To honor his wife and support the women’s studies program, Dr. Theodore Sadock (Class of 1933) endowed a lecture series in 2001. With the diversity of Kitty Sadock’s involvement in the arts in mind, the GSWS program has brought a variety of artists to Union: painters, filmmakers, performance artists, folk singers, poets, and dancers, among others.

This year’s Sadock lecturer, Traci Molloy, has exhibited at over 175 venues, including solo shows in New York, Chicago, Kansas City, and has participated in the Atlanta Biennial. Select residencies include: Lower Eastside Printshop, Newark Museum, Bucknell University, Institute for Electronic Arts, and Ohio University. Molloy’s multi-media collaborations with adolescents have been exhibited in Johannesburg, South Africa; Tokyo, Japan; United Nations, New York; the Pentagon, Washington, DC; David J. Sencer CDC Museum, Atlanta, GA; Bronx Museum of the Arts, New York; and the Norman Rockwell Museum in Stockbridge, MA. Her work has been featured in three books, and reviewed in both national and regional publications, including BOMB magazine, Art Papers, and Ms. magazine. Her collaborations have been featured on Good Morning America, NPR, and news stations in New York, Boston, Atlanta, Bangor, and Washington, DC. The National September 11^th Memorial and Museum owns five of her collaborations. Molloy has directed arts-based outreach programs in the Bronx, Atlanta, and Appalachia. She lectures regularly nationwide at colleges, universities, and arts and education-based conferences.

Refreshments will be served. The lecture will begin at 5:30 pm. Visitors may view the exhibition, located upstairs in the Wikoff Student Gallery, before the lecture begins. This event is free and open to the public.
