About the Art Installation Series

Embracing the concept of the library as a laboratory, the Mandeville Gallery and the Schaffer Library at Union College collaboratively present the Art Installation Series, in an effort to shift the visual arts from a gallery setting into a public space.

Each year, a contemporary artist will be invited to create an art installation piece for the Schaffer Library Learning Commons. Students, staff, faculty and the public will be able to view the artist at work, observe the creative process in real time, and informally interact with the artist as s/he creates. Each artist will have four days to complete their artwork with the assistance of students, culminating in an artist talk about their experience. The artwork will remain on display for one year after completion.
