More than 20,000 calls for entry were sent to high schools and colleges across the country, inviting submissions that illustrated the theme “Green Light.” Participants were asked to consider the motivations behind their work and the infinite possibilities that creativity provides. The call also encouraged artists to contemplate the relationship between life, art and disability. The exhibition includes 15 artists and 16 works.

The artists include: Sarah Muehlbauer, Elise Mravunac, April Dill, Alexander Appel, Katrina Cathcart, Lissa Corona, Emily Eifler, Oddree Freitas, Franco Gassant, Ervin Gray, Michelle Herman, Michelle Jasmin, Danya Lang, Daniel Mc Farlane, PJ Smalley
Artists are motivated by an intense desire and dedication to their practice. Art is their gateway to understanding – a place to connect to the world. Through this connection, artists find a place for personal expression. Art becomes a record of their existence and a lasting imprint that conveys meaning.

Art may also be used to process experience and entertain different perspectives. The creative process is applied for personal exploration, as a focal point for refuge and a fundamental concept for learning. Artists’ creativity may also be ignited by the world around them, such as the natural environment or current world events. The imagination provides a safe place where the mind can roam both freely and creatively. Concepts are expanded, progress is documented and the future is considered.

The satisfaction gained from creating works of art provides the ambition for additional accomplishment. Artists use the skills and perspectives learned during the creative process in many other situations. Artistic achievement bestows confidence that motivates other areas of life and generates independence.

Ultimately, art provides engagement in something meaningful as well as a personal voice. The creative process drives artist to analyze, interpret, and respond to the world. The selected media functions as an outlet for expressing dreams, goals and aspirations. The resulting work allows for an infinite number of possibilities and a limitless platform for personal expression.
