Zen Meditation Led by Exhibiting Artist, Sheila Ross
Wednesday, February 5th, 2014, Common Lunch, 12:45 – 1:45 PM, Nott Memorial
In conjunction with the current exhibition, On Being, the Mandeville Gallery will host a session of Zen meditation led by exhibiting artist, graphic designer and Zen meditation leader, Sheila Ross.
Sheila Ross is an English installation artist and photographer living and working in New York City. Trained as a sculptor at St. Martin’s School of Art in London, she received an MFA from Hunter College, CUNY. Since then, Ross has shifted from the physicality of substantial materials to work with light, space and sound, first in environmental installations, and now in photography and video. This shift is part of an ongoing attempt to create something that expresses what it feels like to be alive, to be human, a condition that has mystified us for centuries. Increasingly Ross’ art practice is influenced by her Zen practice, which strips away the habits of conceptualization, and brings us directly to our unique experience of life.
Green tea and hot cocoa will be served. A limited amount of meditation cushions will be available on a first come, first serve basis. This event is free and open to the public.
