As of Feb. 8, $7,715,831 had been committed to the construction and maintenance phase of the Schaffer Library expansion and renovation, a $14.6 million objective.
The remaining $5.68 million in gifts and pledges is needed by Nov. 1 to secure $1.625 million in three challenge grants:
The Kresge Foundation, of Troy, Mich., issued an $800,000 challenge award if the College could complete its fundraising objective by Nov. 1.
The Fred L. Emerson Foundation, of Auburn, N.Y., issued a similar $250,000 challenge. The grant will be used for a library technology endowment.
The National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) issued a $575,000 challenge to provide equipment and library materials to support the teaching and learning opportunities enabled by the renovation.
Gifts or pledges to the Schaffer Library renovation and expansion will enable Union to claim additional support. For more information, contact Dan West, vice president of College Relations, at (518) 388-6180, or the Office of College Relations, 807 Union Street, Schenectady, N.Y. 12308.
