Two professors billing themselves as “golf
economists” will take a serious look at professional golf in an economics seminar
titled “Evaluating the Performance of Golfers on the PGA, LPGA and SPGA Tours”
on Wednesday, Oct. 7, at 3:30 p.m. in Social Sciences 010.
Professors Harold Fried and James Lambrinos, assisted by
students Jamie Drown and Jim Tyner, will discuss the “Performance Under Pressure
Index” (PUP); explain who is better under pressure, Mark Calcavechia or Steve
Elkington; compare the tours in terms of which players perform best under pressure;
explore how top money earners in the LPGA or SPGA would fare on the PGA tour; and consider
which is most important putting or driving.
