Reception Planned for Dan West

A reception for Dan West, outgoing vice president
for College Relations, and his wife Sidney is set for Friday, Jan. 8, from 3:30 to 5:30
p.m. in Hale House.

West, who arrived at Union in 1992, has accepted a
position as vice president for alumni, development and public relations at Swarthmore
College.

During West's tenure, the College completed the $151
million Bicentennial Campaign, saw a doubling in annual giving, and successfully raised
funds for the restoration of the Nott Memorial, the renovation and expansion of Schaffer
Library and the construction of the F.W. Olin Center.

1. The minutes of Nov. 2, 1998 were approved.

2. The meetings of the AAC next term will continue at
12:15 p.m. on Mondays. The next meeting will take place on Monday of the first week of the
Winter Term.

3. Discussion of the calendar proposal continued. More
data will be added on the yearly and weekly schedules.

The Shoulder Takes Stage at Yulman

Proctor's Too presents The
Shoulder,
on Friday, Jan. 15, and Saturday, Jan. 16, at 8:02 p.m. in the Yulman
Theater. This “chamber opera” musically chronicles an elderly farmer who rides
his mowing tractor 250 miles across Iowa and through rural America to see his ailing
brother. Using just three actors, the play reflects on the pain of aging, the passing of
small-town life, and the beauty of moving slowly in a fast world. Tickets are $15, $10 for
students.

South African Art on Display

African Aesthetic,” a traveling show curated by Harris Wiltsher, is on display
through Feb. 7 in the Arts Atrium. Eight artists from the Western Cape are showcased.
