Schenectady, N.Y. (July 26, 1999) – Intecom, a Dallas-based telecommunications equipment provider, has made a considerable contribution to furthering the success of the Union-Schenectady (US) Initiative, the College's broad-based plan to revitalize its west-campus neighborhood, Union College President Roger H. Hull announced.
“Intecom, with their support of the US Initiative, has shown that community revitalization is, and should be, a national effort,” Hull said. “It is our hope that our efforts to help Schenectady will serve as a model for other states searching for ways to give back to their communities. Intecom now joins a growing list of partners in Union's Initiative to truly make a difference.
Intecom's gift to Union came in the form of special discounts on telecommunications equipment for the College's acquired properties on Seward Place which, following renovations, will serve as housing for approximately 100 students this fall, in addition to Lenox Avenue.
In support of the US project, Intecom is providing Union College with sophisticated yet flexible telecommunications equipment and services to enable integrated communications from the Seward and Lenox properties with the college's in-house telecommunications system. Intecom's contribution will provide basic telephone, voicemail and network voice service for the two locations. The fully integrated solution also brings all of the functionality from on-campus locations to remote locations, allowing students, faculty and staff to take advantage of all campus applications, regardless of location.
