The trolley that will serve as the new campus
shuttle needs a name.
The 24-passenger vehicle will be parked starting Monday
in front of Reamer Campus Center, where students may submit nominations to
name the vehicle.
Entries are to be forwarded to the Student Forum for
selection with the winner to be announced at the end of the week. The
winning entry will receive prizes including a TV and credit toward their
declining balance account donated by Dining Services.
Robert Tomeck, campus safety supervisor, has coordinated
the acquisition of the trolley. A number of members of the Facilities
Services staff contributed to the restoration of the vehicle, he said. The
trolley had been used most recently for tours of Cleveland's waterfront.
Trolley hours will be 6 p.m. to 2 a.m., Sunday through
Thursday; and 6 p.m. to 4 a.m. Friday and Saturday. The route plan may
include stops at neighboring businesses during the shuttle hours, Tomeck
said, and the schedule may be expanded to include trips to area shopping
centers.
The trolley also may be used for a variety of campus
functions such as admissions and alumni tours, Tomeck said. Trustees last
week used the newly refurbished vehicle to tour the College Park
neighborhood where the College has begun the Union-Schenectady Initiative.
