Anonymous gifts to the College are nothing new.
But a recent one was remarkable for the letter that
accompanied it.
“I did some physical damage to Union College
several years ago,” began the letter to Diane Blake, vice president
for finance and administration. “I am sorry; please accept my
apology. The contents of the enclosed envelope is my attempt to cover the
expense of the damage.”
The letter, most likely written by a former student
feeling guilty about some vandalism, included $310 in cash.
The letter ended with a clever nom de plume: Pen
I. Tent.
