David Lamb, author of Plantanos wit' Collard Greens about the
differences within the Latino community, and The Trumpet is Blown
about Islam within the African-American community, speaks on
“Afro-Latin Connections.”

Robert Vrooman, known as the “classic whistle blower” for his
labeling of the Wen Ho Lee prosecution as racial profiling, will speak on
“Lessons of the Wen Ho Lee Affair.”

“Separate & Together,” an exhibition by painters Wolf Kahn
and Emily Mason focusing on the husband and wife's common influences,
inspirations and approaches.

A 3rd And 4th in ASCE Competition

race on Saturday.

The College's paddlers battled stiff winds on Saturday to take third in the Upstate region of the concrete canoe competition at Collins Lake in Scotia.


Also at the New York/New England conference of the American Society of Civil Engineers hosted by the College, the Union team took fourth in the steel bridge-building competition.


Cornell took top honors in the concrete canoe division; SUNY Institute of Technology at Utica-Rome won the bridge competition.


The beach at Collins Lake was crowded with spectators eager to see the usual mishaps in the chilly water. They were rewarded in the form of several dumpings and a canoe that broke in half – one from the University of Hartford.

Weight Watchers Group Forming

A Weight Watcher's group will meet Monday, April 24,
at noon in Reamer 409.

Enrollment fee is $89.50, $25 of which will be covered
by the College.

Taylor-Neal to Head HEOP/AOP

Gloria Taylor-Neal, associate director and couselor
for HEOP/AOP, has been named director of the program effective July 1, it
was announced by Christie Sorum, acting dean of faculty.

She succeeds Kimmo Rosenthal, acting director and also
professor of mathematics.

“Gloria's experience in HEOP/AOP programs and
admissions and her understanding of the College ensure both her success
and a smooth transition,” Sorum said in a memo to faculty and
administrators.

Jazz Ensemble to Gig at Van Dyck

The Union College Jazz Ensemble, under the direction
of Prof. Tim Olsen, will perform at the Van Dyck Restaurant, 235 Union
St., on Wednesday, April 12, 7 to 10 p.m. There is a $4 cover charge.
