Friends of Union Athletics

The Friends of Union Athletics web site will work
in conjunction with the Friends of Union Newsletter. This site will post
weekly individual and team honors and highlights with the newsletter focusing in
on feature stories. We hope you like the new format and encourage
suggestions.

To be a Friends of Union of Athletics member for
the 2000-2001 season, send a check or money order to: Friends of Union
Athletics, Alumni Gym, Union College, Schenectady, NY 12308. 2000-01 Membership Dues are as follows:

Class members, 1999–no charge
Class members, 1996-98–$25.00
Regular membership–$35.00
Contributing member–$50.00
Sponsoring member–$75.00
Patron member–$100.00 or more.

Senior wideout Dan Hamister (Clarence,
NY/Williamsville E.)
caught five passes for 144 yards and three of
Gilbert's touchdowns. He caught three touchdowns all of last
year…Junior Audrey Brennan (Cooperstown, NY/Cooperstown) led the
volleyball team with 53 kills while classmate Melinda Colon (Passic,
NJ/Rutherford)
added 21…Freshman goalkeeper Matt Lombardo
(Bristol, RI/LaSalle Academy)
recorded two saves in picking up his
first collegiate victory in the win over Mt. St. Mary. His brother,
sophomore Matt Lombardo, supported the effort with a goal…A total of 10
players scored in the women's soccer team's season-opening victory over
Mt. St. Mary. Senior Missy Matusewicz (Florence, MA/Northampton)
and junior Tonia Deligianis (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna) each had a
goal and an assist while freshman Corinne Hennessy (Mahopac, NY/Choate
Rosemary Hall)
celebrated her college debut with a goal and three
assists.

Volleyball Team Wins Vassar Tournament

The Dutchwomen got off to a great start under first-year head coach Sandy Collins as they won their first-ever Vassar Invitational.  After losing the opening game to the host Brewers,
Union defeated Montclair, Rochester (the Dutchwomen's first-ever victory
over the Yellowjackets) and then beat Geneseo in a five-set championship
showdown.  sophomore Corrin Jordan (New Hyde Park, NY/Herricks High
School) who had 47 kills, four service aces, eight digs and four blocked
shots, was named to the All-Tournament team.
