The women's soccer team has been the top-ranked
squad in the New York State region the last two weeks and this week moved
from No. 8 into the national poll to a tie for fifth. The Brian
Speck-coached team is 10-0-1 and is unbeaten at home in its last 24 games
over the last three years. Union, which is 5-0 in the UCAA, needs to
defeat either William Smith (Friday's 4 p.m. game) or Hamilton (Saturday's
2 p.m. contest) to win their second UCAA championship in the last three
years. Unlike the Dutchwomen's title in 1998, winning this year's
crown gives the team an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

On Saturday, October 28, Union will host a
“Military Weekend.” The football team will play its final
home contest of the regular season against the United States Coast Guard
Academy at 1 p.m. and the men's hockey team will kickoff their 2000-2001
campaign with a 7 p.m. showdown with the United States Military
Academy. The Skating Dutchmen are celebrating their 10th year as a
Division I squad.

Through contests of October 7, the fall teams have
compiled an overall record of 39-26-1, a winning percentage of .598.

Frank Deford, a well-known writer for Sports
Illustrated, will be on campus on Thursday, November 2 as part of the
College's Perspectives at the Nott series. The program, which is
entitled “The Hero in American Sport,” is open to the public and
free of charge. The program will begin at 7:30 p.m.
