Prof. Tim Olsen and the Union College Jazz Ensemble will present a program
highlighting the role of the organ in jazz on Sunday, Oct. 15, at 4:30 p.m. in
Memorial Chapel.

Sunday is the day of “Pipes Spectacular—the World's Largest Organ
Concert” as the American Guild of Organists present more than 2,000
performers in more than 225 venues throughout North America to an anticipated
audience of more than 200,000. This celebration of the pipe organ is designed to
increase public awareness of the organ, and to help raise funds for the AGO's
education and professional development programs. The concert is Union's
contribution to this event.

The concert at Union will include works by J.S. Bach, Fats Waller, Jimmy
Smith, and Tito Puente.

This concert is one in a series of three events sponsored by the Eastern New
York Chapter of the AGO; these include a 2 p.m. performance of music for organ,
handbells and brass at First Reformed Church, 224 N. Ballston Ave., Scotia; and
a 3:15 p.m. performance of wedding music at First United Methodist Church, 603
State St., Schenectady. Admission to all three events is $2.

The American Guild of Organists is the national professional association
serving the organ and choral music fields. Since its founding in 1896 as an
educational and service organization, the AGO has sought to set and maintain
high musical standards and to promote understanding and appreciation of all
aspects of organ and choral music.
