Sophomore tailback George Beebe (Salem, NY/Salem) captured his third Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association “Offensive Player of the Week” honors this season as he led the Dutchmen to a 37-15 victory over the University of Rochester last week. Beebe rushed for a Union-record 272 yards (on just 22 carries), breaking the old standards of 263 set by Shuron Morton against Hobart in 1996.

Beebe, who now has 1,067 yards for the season, had touchdown runs of 46, 96 and 14 yards against a Yellowjacket defense that came into the game allowing just 96 yards a game against the run and 221 overall yards. Beebe's three rushing touchdowns against Rochester gives him nine for the year, one short of the single-season record of 10.

Beebe's first rush of the game resulted in a 46-yard scoring scamper around left end with his fourth attempt resulting in a 96-yard bolt up the middle, which gave the Dutchmen a 14-0 advantage. The talented junior finished the first half with 172 yards on just seven carries (a per carry average of 24.6). Beebe later scored on a 14-yard run and broke Morton's record two minutes into the fourth quarter with a 28-yard rush.

The 8-1 Dutchmen, who have won six in a row, conclude their regular season this Saturday at undefeated Springfield. If Union's wins, the Dutchmen will be in line for one of the eight remaining NCAA berths. If they don't come away with a victory, they should still earn a spot in the ECAC event. Both tournaments start on November 18.
