Drew and Emily Taylor are the first brother-sister duo to skate for Union's hockey programs. Drew, a junior, came into the year having scored six goals and 26 points in 55 career games. He netted his first goal of the 2000-01 season in Tuesday night's (Jan. 9) 5-3 loss to Lowell.
In his rookie year of 1998-99, Drew led all freshman in both assists and points (10) and did not commit a penalty (in fact, he had just one career penalty in his first two seasons). His first collegiate goal helped Union defeat Rensselaer at Houston Fieldhouse.
Emily, meanwhile, has five points (two goals and three assists) and is tied for first on the Skating Dutchwomen's scoring chart. Prior to coming to Union, Emily was a consistent 30-point scorer for the Leaside Wildcats. The Taylors are from Leaside, Ontario, in Toronto.
The football team placed six players on the Football Gazette's Eastern Regional All-American First-Team. Sophomore tailback George Beebe (Salem, NY/Salem), senior wide receiver Bryan Slekes (Rochester, NY/Gates Chili), junior offensive linemen Justin Forester (Rochester, NY/Bridgeton) and Mike Visconti (Marion, MA/Northfield), junior defensive end Josh Stinehour (Rochester, NY/Penfield), junior placekicker Andrew Ruffo (Conklin, NY/Susquehanna Valley) and junior defensive back Radney Wood (Newport, NY/West Canada) are all eligible for national All-American honors.
Besides Galletta, junior forward C.J. Rodgers (Chicago, IL/St. Rita) was named to the All-Tournament team of the Union Invitational. Rodgers broke a 79-79 tie in the opening win over Lasell by scoring on back-to-back alley-oop passes and then hitting two free throws to give Union an 85-79 lead enroute to the 93-81 victory. Rodgers finished the two-game event with a combined 33 points and 11 rebounds.
