Thomas C. Werner, Florence B. Sherwood Professor of Physical Sciences, participated in a proposal review panel at the National Science Foundation in a program called Research Sites for Educators in Chemistry (RSEC). RSEC awards, which total $2 million over five years, will be awarded to research universities to establish sustainable research opportunities for faculty at two- and four-year colleges. It is expected that two to three of these awards will be given out in this round. Also, while attending NCUR recently, Werner and Ann Anderson, associate professor of mechanical engineering, participated in a “summit meeting” on undergraduate research involving the following organizations: NCUR, CUR, Project Kaleidoscope, National Honors Council, Phi Beta Kappa, NSF, The Lancy Foundation, AAHE and AAC&U. The goal of the meeting was to identify ways in which these organizations can cooperate to promote undergraduate research and creative activity.
