Named the UCAA
“Pitcher of the Week”

Junior pitcher Sarah Johnston (Troy, NY/Troy) was named the Upstate Collegiate Athletic Conference's “Pitcher of the Week” as she allowed just two earned runs and struck out 12 in 17 innings of work. It marked the second time in the last three weeks that Johnston has been honored by the league. She was named the UCAA as well as the ECAC Upstate New York “Pitcher of the Week” in recognition for her outstanding performances during the softball team's week-long spring trip to Florida.

Johnston, who has been the No. 3 pitcher for the Dutchwomen behind seniors Apryle Pickering and Meg Crowley, is 4-1 this season and leads the UCAA with her 0.44 earned run average (allowing just two earned runs in 32.1 innings). She also leads the Dutchwomen with her 20 strikeouts as well as her innings pitched to hits allowed ratio (giving up just 15 hits).

Johnston came into the season with a 13-4 career record and an earned run average of 3.01 with 65 strikeouts in 98 career innings. As a sophomore she had a 5-2 record and started nine games, completing four. She pitched a total of 43.2 innings with 33 strikeouts and 10 walks. Johnston completed her freshman year with an 8-2 record, starting 10 games and completing seven. She pitched 54.1 innings with 32 striketous and 10 walks.

During her first two seasons, Johnston helped the Dutchwomen compile a record of 45-22 while helping them qualify for a berth in the New York State Women's Collegiate Athletic Association post-season tournament. This year she has helped Union to a record of 11-4-2.
