Rebecca A. Koopmann, assistant professor of physics, gave two talks under the Harlow Shapley Visiting Lectureships program at Jamestown (N.Y.) Community College last month. The talks, aimed at a public audience, were “The Dark Sides of Galaxies” and “The Stressful Environment of a Cluster of Galaxies.” The Harlow Shapley talks are sponsored by the American Astronomical Society to bring professional astronomers to small colleges. Also, Koopmann is the author (with J.D.P. Kenney and J. Young) of a paper titled “An Atlas of Halpha and R Images and Radial Profiles of 63 Bright Virgo Cluster Spiral Galaxies” to be published in Astrophysical Journal.
