Larzer Ziff, the Caroline Donovan Professor Emeritus of Johns Hopkins University, will deliver a lecture, “Mark Twain and the Lands of Color,” on Tuesday, May 1, at 7:30 p.m., in Everest Lounge, Hale House.

Ziff, formerly the Washington Irving Professor of Literary and Historical Studies at Union College, is author of a newbook, Return Passages: Great American Travel Writing,1780-1910, which received a rave review in the New York Times Sunday Book Review. His many other books,include Puritanism in America (a National Book Award finalist), Literary Democracy, and The American 1890s(for which he won the Christian Gauss Award.)

He has received awards from the Guggenheim Foundation,the Fulbright Foundation, and the National Endowment for the Humanities.
