George Butterstein co-authors paper with scientists from the NYS Department of Health’s Wadsworth Center

George Butterstein, Florence B. Sherwood Professor of Life Sciences, was co-author (with scientists from the NYS Department of Health's Wadsworth Center) of an article, “A Follicle-Stimulating Hormone Receptor Ecto-Domain Epitope that is a Target for Receptor Immunoneutralization yet does not Affect Ligand Contact and Activation” in the journal Endocrine.

Ashraf Ghaly, co-authors paper, “Strength and deformation characteristics of rubberized concrete.”

Ashraf Ghaly, associate professor of civil engineering and Jed Cahill '01 are co-authors of a paper, “Strength and deformation characteristics of rubberized concrete,” presented at the 16th International Conference on Solid Waste Technology and Management in Philadelphia. Ghaly also presented “Geotechnical and structural design of shallow foundations via the Internet” at the 10th International Conference on Computer Methods and Advances in Geomechanics at the University of Arizona; and “A forum for cross disciplinary views on controversial issues in undergraduate education,” at the Undergraduate Research Network (during the 15th National Conference on Undergraduate Research) at the University of Kentucky.

Carol S. Weisse publishes paper, “Do Gender and Race Affect Decisions About Pain Management?”

Carol S. Weisse, director of health profession programs, has published a paper, “Do Gender and Race Affect Decisions About Pain Management?” in the April Journal of General Internal Medicine. Co-authors are Dr. Paul Sorum, Kafi Sanders '99 and Beth Syat '99. She also presented a paper at the annual meeting of the Eastern Psychological Association in Washington titled “Behavioral vs. Self-report Indices of Satisfactory Pain Control Among Patients Receiving Patient-Controlled Analgesia (PCA): Does Gender Matter?” Co-authors were Leah Oliveiri `00, Dana Weinkranz `99, and Jan Buhrmaster, R.N., Ellis Hospital.

Bombazo Latino performs at Union College on May 15

Schenectady, N.Y. (May 11, 2001) – The folkloric youth dance
group, Bombazo Latino, will perform and offer an instructional dance session at
Union College's Nott Memorial at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 15. This event is being held in conjunction with the Mandeville Gallery's current exhibition “Saints, Sinners and Sacred Spaces Devotional Folk Art from Latin America.”

Bombazo Latino embraces Latino culture through art. The
group is composed of dancers between the ages of 11 and 18.They focus on Afro-Caribbean and folkloric dances from Puerto Rico (bomba y plena), Dominican Republic (merengue) and  (salsa) from the rhythms of Cuba. Bombazo Latino is funded by a grant through the New York State Council of the Arts.
