Robert Hislope presents a paper in San Francisco

Robert Hislope, assistant professor of political science, presented a paper, “The Calm Before the Storm? The Influence of Cross-Border Networks, Corruption, and Contraband on Macedonian Stability and Regional Security,” at the recent American Political Science Association meeting in San Francisco. He also contributed a chapter, “From Ontology to Analogy: Evolutionary Theories and the Explanation of Ethnic Politics,” in Evolutionary Theory and Ethnic Conflict, Patrick James and David Goetze, eds. (Praeger, 2001). He wrote a book review of Radha Kumar's “Divide and Fall: Bosnia in the Annals of Partition” (1997), published in Canadian-American Slavic Studies (v. 35, no. 4, Winter 2001).

United Way drive comes to close

With the College's United Way campaign coming to a close this week, organizers are aiming to set a new mark for campus participation, said Kathy McCann, a campus coordinator for the drive.

Organizers also are hopeful to increase the average gift to $104 ($2 per week through payroll deduction), McCann said.

Andreas Scholl performs Wed.

Countertenor Andreas Scholl will perform “A Musicall Banquet: Lute Songs from Around the World,” accompanied by Karl-Ernst Schroeder, at Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, Nov. 14, at 8 p.m.

This performance, part of Union's chamber series, marks Scholl's East Coast recital debut; he will then make his New York City debut at Carnegie Hall on Nov. 16. This performance was rescheduled from April 20; all tickets will be honored.
Tickets at $20, $8 for students (and free to Union students) are available in advance at the Office of Communications, Union College (518) 388-6131 and at the door at 7 p.m. For more information, call 372-3651.

Volunteers sought for race

Organizers of the Stockadeathon, a 15K road race on Sunday at 10:30 a.m., are looking for volunteers to help with traffic control and water stations.

To volunteer, please contact Emily Bryans, volunteer coordinator, at hamletbryans@aol.com.
Volunteers should report to Central Park at 9:15 a.m. Marshalls will get a street assignment and receive a red vest and flag. Water stop attendants will be assigned to one of three stations, and should report to that water stop by 10 a.m. Tables, water, cups, and garbage bags will be delivered by the Schenectady Parks Department.

Volunteers will receive a quality Stockadeathon T-shirt and invitation to a volunteer party at the Fireside Restaurant on Eastern Avenue from noon to 4 p.m.
The race starts with a loop at Central Park, proceeds north on McClellan Street, west on Nott Street (past the College), through the Stockade and back to the park via State Street and Fehr Avenue.
