Major grants awarded to faculty in the past six months include:

Professor Linda Cool, anthropology, and Ken Cool received a $795,000 grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation to continue development of the Mellon College Retirement Project, which seeks
to design and offer an affordable,
high-quality, cost-effective, and nationally-available medical benefit plan that would be prefunded during the working careers of faculty and staff and provide them, in coordination with Medicare, with health insurance security during retirement years.

Professor Rob Olberg, biology, received an NSF research award of $213,987 for his project, “The neural control of visually guided pretty interception in dragonflies.”

David Gerhan, of Schaffer Library, received a U. S. State Department Fulbright Scholar Award to spend the years teaching and conducting research for academic libraries at the University of Botswana, Gaborone.

Professor Eshragh Motahar, economics, received a Fulbright Scholar Board award to spend the fall term teaching and conducting research at the Vietnam Fulbright Program Center, jointly run by Harvard University and the University of Economics, Ho Chi Minh City.
