Union sophomore Jordan Webb (Nepean, Ontario) was named the Eastern College Athletic Conferences' “Player of the Week” for his performance in last week's two-game series at Bemidji State (MN). Joel Beal (Brantford, Ontario) also earned an ECAC nod as e was named to the league's to the ECAC “Honor Roll” for their performances last weekend at Bemidji State (MN).
Webb, a member of the 2002 ECAC All-Rookie Team, had three goals and one assist vs. the Bemidji State Beavers last weekend in Union's 4-3 OT win and 5-5 OT tie. He scored Union's game-winner two minutes into overtime on Friday and was plus 4 on the weekend.
This is the first time that Webb has been named the ECAC Player of the Week. As a rookie, he was named the ECAC Rookie of the Week on January 28 for a 2-1-3 weekend vs. Dartmouth and Vermont, and was an Honor Roll member the week of November 26 for his three-assist game vs. Providence.
Beal, a first time Honor Roll selection, was chosen for his one goal and four assist weekend. He assisted on three of Union's four goals on Friday, including the OT game-winner, while assisting on Union's fourth goal on Saturday and scoring the fifth. He was plus 3 in the series. Beal currently leads all Dutchmen in scoring with two goals and six assists for eight points.
This is the second consecutive week Union players have been honored by the conference. Last week, freshman goalie Kris Mayotte was named the ECAC Goalie of the Week while senior center Kris Goodjohn was an Honor Roll selection.
The Dutchmen are 2-1-2 this season and will travel to UMass-Lowell on Friday for a non-conference game vs. the River Hawks. They return to Schenectady for Saturday's game vs. the Holy Cross Crusaders of the MAAC. ECAC play will begin at home on November 8 and 9 vs. St. Lawrence and Clarkson.
